Make Your Own Luxurious Rose Body Oil 🌹 October 29, 2018 14:39
Nothing says love, beauty and perfection like fragrant, vibrant roses. And nothing is more disappointing than when they lose their vitality and start wilting. I have a really hard time throwing them away, especially when their petals still look fresh. The good news is that you don’t have to throw them away. Rose petals can make a luxurious body oil, which will encapsulate memories of your summer rose garden or of that special someone who gave them to you.
Making your own body oil is quick and easy if you follow these steps:
- Chop the rose petals to break the plant cell walls and encourage more of its oil-soluble compounds to infuse into the oil.
- Put the chopped petals in a heat-resistant measuring cup, cover them with oil (sweet almond, olive or sunflower oil are good choices) and let them macerate for a couple of hours in a double boiler. It is very important that you don’t overheat the oil and scorch the petals, so keep the heat as low as possible.
- Once the infusion is done, strain the petals and pour the oil into a sterilized airtight container. You can add a few drops of rose or geranium essential oil.
If you have the patience, you can do this the traditional way by drying the petals first. Once completely dry, put them in an airtight glass jar, cover them with oil and place the jar in a warm sunny location for three-four weeks, until the gentle heat of the sun will extract many of the rose’s skin-loving compounds.
Apply after shower on your wet skin and enjoy your velvety, soft as a rose petal skin! Let me know how it turns out.
Here's to a beautiful, healthier you,
